Our pool and hot tub are officially open for the season!! Please pay close attention to the policies listed below to ensure everyone has an enjoyable experience at the North Haven pool!

Pool & Hot Tub Hours:  9am– 9pm  

• No one under the age of 14 may be in the pool & surrounding areas at any time without a responsible adult accompanying them.
• No one under the age of 16 may be in the hot tub at any time without a responsible adult accompanying them.
• No more than 2 guests per apartment. All guests must be accompanied by a resident at all times while using the facilities.
• WARNING:  NO LIFEGUARD ON DUTY!  SWIM AT YOUR OWN RISK!
• NO glass containers, rafts or large objects in the pool area at any time.
• No children in diapers are allowed in the pool/hot tub area at any time.
• No one with an open wound or illness should use the pool or hot tub at any time.
• The pool area is NOT for private parties.
• No running, jumping, pushing, ball throwing, or rough play in our around the pool.
• NO DIVING!  SHALLOW WATER!
• NO PETS allowed in the pool/hot tub area w/the exception of handicap-assistance animals.
• Proper bathing attire only!
• Bathing suits are not to worn in the leasing office, basketball court, or fitness center.
• Every individual is responsible for picking up after themselves!
• Report any issues to the office immediately at 317-818-4690.
• The Courtesy Officer will be checking the pool every night to ensure everyone has vacated the pool area at 9pm.

We know that most of our residents are busy, busy, busy! Why not make your life easier by utilizing our delivery dry-cleaning service, provided by Deering Cleaners! All you have to do is stop in the office to pick up a dry cleaning bag and fill out the payment application. You can chose for them to invoice you monthly or to pay as you use the service. The delivery is completely FREE for  you! Deering picks up and drops off on Mondays and Thursdays at the North Haven Clubhouse. (for example: if they pick up  your clothes on Monday, they will be returned Thursday) Feel free to stop in with any questions you may have. Just another service we offer to make your life easier!

We’ve had lots of changes in our office staff over recent months and wanted to take the opportunity to say goodbye to our Assistant Manager of two years, Leah. We are sad to see Leah go but she will be taking her talents to JC Hart’s new property, One One Six. We wish her the best of luck!……and we would like to welcome Jody aboard! Jody will join Jocilyn as another leasing associate at North Haven!

We are excited about all the changes going on a North Haven and hope you will all stop by to introduce yourselves!

Don’t forget to stop by the office between 10am and noon to see the adorable dogs up for adoption from Wags Strays. They will have 5 puppies and 2 adult dogs but many more looking for homes. If you adopt within 2 weeks of today, North Haven will waive your new pet fee (thats $250!!)! We hope to see you there!

Certified K-9 Trainer, Julie Case, has answered your TOP questions about dog obedience and education. Julie has 17 years of experience and is available for training your dog! She can be reached at (317) 443-6019.

1. Since I live in apartment, my dog barks every time he hears people outside (which is a lot)..What can I do to stop this? (Is there anything to help barking when I am not at home?)

Teach your dog to ignore noises while you are home. Leave a leash on the dog and let him drag it around. If he starts showing signs of alertness or barking, pick up the leash, get his attention and tell him “leave it”. Make him sit and give him a treat for being quiet for a few seconds and paying attention to you. He’ll soon learn to ignore the sounds outside of your apartment. 

When you are gone, it’s a good idea to leave a tasty long lasting chew toy for your dog that will keep him occupied until he falls asleep. You can stuff a big Kong with yummy treats and freeze it. Your dog will be too busy chewing on his toy to pay attention to noises. Also leave the radio on to create some sound in the background.

2. I’ve heard a lot about all-natural food for pets, should I switch my pet’s food? (what are benefits?)

 There are a lot of good and bad dog food brands on the market. Not many people realize how many behavior and health problems are contributed to bad nutrition. Most dog food brands are made of cheap grains and by products.  By products include euthanized cats and dogs, deceased animals, road kill, chicken feather and feces and etc.  Just like us, dogs need good nutrition in order to thrive.

By switching your dog food to a good brand you will prolong his life, reduce vet bills and increase his overall health level. On top of that you will see a change in his energy level. Most hyperactive dogs become calmer if they are fed proper nutrition. Look for these brands at Pet Supply Plus, Petco or Petsmart stores: Natural Balance, Fromm, Taste of the Wild, Wellness, And Blue Buffalo. These are top of the line well balanced human grade dog food brands on the market.

3. How do I stop my dog from jumping up on people?

You need to start by making sure you have a leash and a collar on your dog. Also have a few yummy treats in your pocket. When visitors approach your dog and he jumps on them, give him a firm “off” command and a gentle but firm tug on the leash, tell him to “sit” and reward, make sure the visitors pet him while he is sitting. After a few repetitions, your dog will soon learn that when he wants attention and jumps up on people, no attention happens and he feels a tug on his leash, but as soon as he sits – he gets the loving and attention that he wanted. The dog will soon start offering a “sit” in order to get pet.

Keeping in mind it takes repetitions, about 10-12 different people, 5-6 tries each person for the dog to learn not to jump on anyone.

4. I like to let my dog run off leash but my apartment community has rules about keeping her on a leash, why is it important for me to keep my dog on a leash?

Though your dog is probably very friendly and social, he can easily get distracted by an animal or some smells. Being off leash he can bolt across the road. This would create a dangerous situation on the road for the drivers and worse than that, your dog can get hit by a car. Indiana has a leash law, however there a lot of specially designed dog parks around the city, your dog and you can enjoy a nice off leash play in those parks. My favorite is Pierson Bark Park. You won’t have to worry about your dog running onto a busy road. It’s a safe park, fenced in all around and there is even a doggy pond there. They also have a fountain, plenty of tennis balls, fields, trails, a gazebo and a lot of space to run and play. Check it out.

5. My dog acts aggressively towards other dogs it doesn’t know…how can I make him more comfortable meeting new animals?

Most likely your dog feels unsure when meeting a new dog. He might act aggressive because he doesn’t quite know if the dog is a potential threat to him. It is a good idea to not let him go face to face right the way with the new dog. Ask the dog’s owner to join you on the walk. Walk at a brief pace side by side for a few minutes. You will notice your dog will start to relax after walking together for awhile. It’s kind of like joining a pack. Since you will walk at a brief pace, your dog will have to focus on keeping up with you that will redirect his attention from the dog to you. If he tries to bark at the other dog, let him know you don’t like it and you won’t tolerate it by giving him a firm tug on a leash and a firm “leave it!.” Keep walking. Praise him when he quiets down and starts focusing on you. Bring some treats too. It will help you redirect his attention to you. After walking together your dog will feel safer around the new dog and most likely will stop noticing it. You can arrange to go on walks with some friends that will bring their dogs to help you desensitize your dog to other dogs.
